2009 Curbside Pick-up Schedule - EVERY OTHER TUESDAY

NOTE: If cancelled due to severe weather, there is no make up schedule.

RECYCLABLE MATERIALS:

All materials must be at the curb the night before the collection day. If not picked up by 3:00 p.m., call Borough Hall (973)538-2224 by 10 a.m. on the following day. Labels for containers are available by calling the Department of Public Works. If you have a problem with collection, you must call the municipal office no later than 10:00 a.m. the morning following your collection day. All containers must have handles and should weigh no more than 50 lbs.

Mixed Recyclables

Remove and throw away plastic caps or lids, however, put clean metal lids into the container for mixed recyclables.

• GLASS BOTTLES and JARS
  Clear, brown and green only. No mirrors, glasses, light bulbs or pyrex.
• PLASTIC BOTTLES/TWO TYPES
  Look for the following codes on the bottom of bottles only:
  - PETE (coded #1)
  - HOPE (coded #2)
  
  PREPARATION - Rinse bottles and discard plastic caps. Combine with other mixed recyclables in same rigid and reusable container. DO NOT include tubs (e.g. margarine, ice cream), motor-oil, anti-freeze containers or any plastic other than bottles. Step on plastic bottles to conserve space.

  ---

• ALUMINUM CANS
  No pots, pans, plates or foil.
  
  PREPARATION - Rinse and combine with other mixed recyclables in a rigid and reusable container.
  

  ---

• STEEL CONTAINERS
  Includes food/beverage cans, EMPTY paint cans and EMPTY aerosol cans (with plastic tops removed). Put empty insecticide or pesticide cans into the trash; if they are not empty, dispose of them through the Morris County household hazardous waste program. Information is available at mcmua.com or call 973-829-8006.
  
  PREPARATION - Combine with other mixed recyclables after removing plastic caps or lids. DRY, EMPTY and OPEN paint cans (from both latex and oil based paints) are acceptable. Remove lids from steel paint cans, and put them into the mixed recyclable container.

Newspaper

• NEWSPAPER
  Includes glossy inserts that come with the newspaper.
  
  PREPARATION - Bundle and cross-tie with twine. Keep separate from magazines/junk mail. DO NOT put into brown paper or plastic bags.
  

  ---

All Other Paper

• MIXED PAPER
  Includes magazines,catalogs, coupons, junk mail, envelopes, phone books, slick paper, carbon less paper (NCR), copy paper, direct mail ads, fax paper, manila file folders, Pendaflex folders (remove metal bar) and non-foil/non-metallic gift wrap.
  
  PREPARATION - Separate and DO NOT mix with the newspaper. Place loose in a rigid reusable container or brown paper bag - never in a plastic bag. Obtain labels at the Borough Clerk's office or at the Recycling Center for all your rigid containers.
  

  ---

• CORRUGATED CARDBOARD
  Ridged cardboard containers used for shipping.
  
  PREPARATION - Flatten, bundle, tie and put out with your chipboard and brown bags.
  

  ---

• CHIPBOARD
  Thin brown or gray board (for example; cereal boxes, gift boxes, tablet backings, egg cartons, cores from paper towels).
  
  PREPARATION - Empty, flatten and place in a brown paper bag. Put out with corrugated cardboard. Do not include six-pack holders from beer/soda. No metallic coating of any kind. They should be put into the regular trash at this time.
  

  ---

• BROWN BAGS
  Heavy kraft paper bags.
  
  PREPARATION - Fold and tie or put into one of the bags along with chipboard. Put out with corrugated cardboard. Keep separate from mixed paper.

Brush Pick-Up

We ask your cooperation in making Brush Pick-up more efficient by observing the following guidelines:

1. NO BRANCHES OR LIMBS MORE THAN 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER WILL BE PICKED UP. Only branches, limbs and logs that can be chipped will be collected.
2. SMALL LIMBS AND TWIGS should be tied in 1-FOOT ROUND BUNDLES NO LONGER THAN 6 FEET.
3. ALL BRANCHES, LIMBS OR LOGS should be no longer than 6 feet, neatly stacked, all in one direction. No more than 3 inches in diameter is allowed. CHIPPER LIMITS.
4. VINES AND PRICKER BUSHES must be tied in BUNDLES.
5. STUMPS are to be free of DIRT AND DEBRIS.
6. NO LEAVES OR GRASS CLIPPINGS are allowed with Brush Pick-Up.
7. NO LUMBER, METAL, BUILDING MATERIAL OR FOREIGN DEBRIS are allowed.

REMINDER: If you are an OUTSIDE CONTRATOR to cut down a tree, trim trees, bushes and/or landscape, the CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE for hauling it away — not the Borough.

VIOLATIONS: If Brush Pick-Up procedures are not followed, brush will not be picked up and a notice will be left describing the violation(s).

GRASS CLIPPINGS - April 1st, 2009 to November 4th, 2009 The only materials which should be put into the covered containers for Wednesday pick-ups is grass. Please: NO TWIGS, BRANCHES, STONES OR OTHER MATERIALS.

LEAF PICKUP - October 12th to December 4th, 2009 grass, sticks, vines or stones in leaves. Rake leaves to curbside. DO NOT PUT LEAVES IN BAGS.

CHRISTMAS TREE PICK-UP - - JANUARY 4, 11, AND 18, 2010
No brush will be picked up. No plastic bags, nails, wire or ornaments are to be left on trees.
